Ruth E. Phelps of Monticello, Ind., died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2010
at the Whispering Pines Rehabilitation Center, Monticello. She was 88.
Born on Tuesday, June 6, 1922 in Francesville, Ind., she was the daughter of
George Roy Anderson and Esther Leona (Doll) Anderson. On Nov. 23, 1947 in
Francesville, she married Robert D. "Bob" Phelps, who survives in
Monticello.
Also surviving are sons Jerry (wife Jean) Phelps formerly of Chesterton and
now of Monticello, James (Joni) Phelps of Bluffton, Ind., and Tommy (Susan)
Phelps of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; grandchildren Kimberly (husband Greg)
Phelps-Rusk of W. Lafayette, Ind., Julie (Dan) Phelps-Oldenkamp of
Monticello, Alyssa (Samuel) Phelps-Chumbley of Carmel, Ind., and Christian
(Sarah) Phelps of Monticello; great-grandchildren Camella and Connor
Oldenkamp and Gatlin and Emily Phelps; brothers Merl (Marty) Anderson of
Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Don (Phyllis) Anderson of Granburg, Texas; niece
Mary Lee (Eldon) Gutwein of Monticello; and several other nieces, nephews,
great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Leona Grossenbacher, and
brother John Anderson.
She moved to the Monticello community in 1947 from Francesville. She worked
at the old Bryan Mfg. Company for 20 years. She also worked at the
Monticello Health Care for three years. She was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of Monticello and the Rachel Circle Women's Group.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Miller-Roscka
Funeral Home of Monticello. The Rev. Tom Albaum of the First Presbyterian
Church will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery of
rural Monticello. Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. until the time of service
on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the funeral home.
