Kenneth James Cypra of Beverly Shores passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010.
He was 67.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet (nee Inlander); son Daniel
Cypra (wife Mary) of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters Valerie Gutterson (husband
David) of Maryland and Kathleen Froelich (Michael) of New Jersey; brother
Richard Cypra (Bea) of Florida; brother-in-law David Inlander (Beth) of
Illinois; nieces and nephews Michael, Amy, Lisa, Laurie, Richard, Curtis,
Pam and Nancy; and nine great-nieces and nephews.
Ken received his PhD in Civil Engineering/Urban Planning from Northwestern
University. He was a transit planner for 37 years, consulting for various
transit agencies in the Northwest Indiana Transit District (NICTD/South
Shore). He also worked as a transit planner for the Regional Transportation
Authority in Chicago and the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning
Commission. He was an adjunct professor at Indiana University Northwest for
20 years and was program director of Leadership Northwest Indiana for 10
years. He was also a board member and actively involved in the International
Friendship Gardens of Michigan City.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 28 at 3 p.m. at Temple
Israel, 601 N. Montgomery St., in the Miller section of Gary, with Rabbi
Stanley Halpern officiating. The Burns Funeral Home in Hobart is in charge
of arrangements. Private cremation at Burns Funeral Home Crematory will
precede the service. Memorials may be made to the International Friendship
