George C. Blakley of Chesterton passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 at his
home. He was 73.
He was born October 16, 1936 in Chicago to Richard and Lucille (Burke)
Blakely, who preceded him in death. George was married to Rita C. (Porter)
Blakley, who survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by his children, Pamela Daly (husband Michael) of
Valparaiso, Debbie Grant (Ian) of Chesterton, Craig O’Brien (wife Kelly) of
Chesterton, Daniel O’Brien (Anna) of Chesterton, Diane Dodrill (Roger) of
Valparaiso and Edward Blakley of Chesterton; sister Mary Jane Komasinski
(Don) of Michigan City; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rachel Phillips; brothers
Richard and Robert; and sister Vernetta Hazzard.
A long-time area resident, he worked as a computer programmer for U.S.
Steel, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Chesterton Moose Lodge 1623
and was a veteran of the US Army.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29 at 11 a.m. at the Edmonds
& Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton with Pastor Katie Lindberg
officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be
held on Wednesday, July 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials
may be made to the American Cancer Society.
