Sandra Schnick of Valparaiso passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Porter Hospital with her family by her side. She was 71.

She was born Feb. 19, 1939 in Gary, the daughter of Matthew and Zola (Miller) Dorin. She graduated from Lew Wallace High School. Sandy was an impeccable housekeeper and gardener who took great pleasure in feeding the hummingbirds and squirrels that frequented her home. Only her grandchildren took priority over her quiet and orderly lifestyle.

On Aug. 23, 1957, she married Frank Schnick, who survives. Also surviving are children Suzanne Hall (husband David) of Jackson Township and Edward Schnick (wife Laura) of Valparaiso; brother, John Dorin of Valparaiso; and grandchildren Zach and Ethan Hall, Anthony Joseph McLinn, Cayley Marie, Makenna Marie and Carter Daniel Schnick.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Matthew Dorin, Jr.

A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso. Deaconess Kristin Lewis will officiate with cremation to follow. Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. A private burial of ashes will take place at Beatty Cemetery.
