Ronald Mumaw service set

Former Liberty Township resident Ronald G. Mumaw, age 72, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Porter Hospital, Valparaiso. He was 72.

Born on June 23, 1938 in Bicknell, Ind., he was a Valparaiso-area resident since 1969, formerly of Hobart. He attended Liberty Bible Church and Heartland Christian Center Church. He was a barber for 17 years in East Gary, Ind. and in Valparaiso, then a millwright for 23 years at Midwest Steel in Portage. He served two years in the Army Reserves stationed in Virginia, and coached for 10 years in the Liberty Township Recreation Little League, coaching both sons, Jeff and Ron. He also worked with the Liberty Township Boy Scouts Troop 904. He loved all of the Chicago sports teams, especially the Chicago Black Hawks. In Ron’s early years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, achieving the status of Expert Marksman in both pistol and rifle shooting.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen R. (nee Havrilesko) Mumaw of Valparaiso; children Ron Mumaw (wife Melissa) of Noblesville, Ind., Jeff Mumaw of Grand Rapids, Mich., Diane Ruesch (husband Bryan) of Valparaiso; grandchildren Victoria, Elizabeth, Paige, and Hailey; mother Mary Mumaw-Swift of Valparaiso; brothers Allan Mumaw (wife Carol) of Valparaiso and Richard Mumaw of Hollywood, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Mumaw; brother Dick Mumaw of Connorsville, Ind.; and step-dad, Davie Swift of Cape Corral, Fla.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso, Ind. The funeral service will immediately follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Phil Willingham officiating. Cremation will be in Calvary Crematory, Portage. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are being handled by Dykes Funeral Home, Inc., (219) 462-3125.
