Patricia Jean Nelson memorial service set

A memorial service will be held on May 23 for Chesterton resident Patricia Jean Nelson, who passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2010 in Valparaiso at the age of 83.

Patricia was born on Oct. 29, 1926 in Mattoon, Ill., to Walter C. and Edythe (Strawn) Nelson. She worked as a teacher and organizational worker with children for the Chicago Board of Education for many years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Anderson. Since 1949, she was active in Indiana and National American Alliance of Health. She was also a life member of National Geographic Society, a former Red Cross Safety Instructor since 1948, and a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association and Ball State University. She enjoyed folk dancing and was active in swimming for years.

She is survived by many friends. Her ashes will be buried in Crown Hill Cemetery with her parents in Indianapolis.

A memorial service is planned for May 23 at the Chesterton gazebo in Thomas Park from noon until 3 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton. www.ee-fh.com
