Jeanne M. (Manning) Daily of Chesterton passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 6,
2010 at the VNA Hospice Center. She was 69.
Born in Chicago on August 10, 1940, she was the daughter of Edward and Irma
(Keating) Manning. On April 11, 1959 in Chesterton, she married Don Daily,
who survives.
Also surviving are children Mike Daily (wife Mary) of Chatham, Ill., Susan
Bannon (Mike), and Karin Sjaaheim (Dave) of Chesterton; grandchildren Megan
and Molly Daily, Matthew and Kevin Bannon and Eric and Neal Sjaaheim; sister
Petra (Chuck) Steele of Crown Point; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Edward Jr., and sister,
Mary Sloan.
Jeanne was a graduate of the Chesterton High School class of 1958. She was
employed for 30 years as an office manager with Dr. John Read of Chesterton,
then Dr. Douglas Zale, and later as a registrar at the Valparaiso Outpatient
Center. Jeanne was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church since 1947, when
her family moved from Chicago. She loved life and enjoyed family, reading,
travel and was an avid bridge player. She is a former member of the Duneland
Jayettes and the Chesterton Jr. Womens Club.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m., at
St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton. Cremation to
follow services, Heritage Crematory, Portage. A visitation will be held on
Sunday, Jan. 10, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517
Broadway, Chesterton. Memorials for Jeanne may be made to the VNA Hospice or
