Valparaiso resident Dorothy Eleanor Peterson formerly of Hammond passed away
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at LifeCare Center. She was 89.
Born January 11, 1921 in Hammond, she was the daughter of Samuel and Emma (Cederholm)
Samuelson. On June 7, 1958 she married Lee I. Peterson, who preceded her in
death in 2001.
She is survived by children Carl A. Peterson (wife Leann) of Valparaiso, Lee
I. Peterson of Valparaiso, Penny S. Biddle (husband Dean) of Chesterton, and
Roger D. Peterson of Valparaiso; grandchildren Brittney, Brandon and Bryce
Biddle, Britt (Dave) Wanta, Sinead O’Rourke and Patrick O’Rourke of
Illinois.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and
brothers Clarence, Norman and Edmond Samuelson.
She graduated from Hammond High School in 1939 and had served in the offices
of LaSalle Steel. She was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church in Porter and
Delta Theta Tau sorority. In 1956, Dorothy made a pilgrimage to her father’s
homestead in Sweden, the memories of which remained with her the rest of her
life. She will be fondly remembered by her family for her devotion, love and
home cooking.
A visitation will be held Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home,
104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso with a funeral service beginning at 7 p.m.
Rev. Erik Bernth will officiate, with cremation to follow. Private burial of
ashes will take place on Tuesday at Chesterton Cemetery. Memorials may be
