Deborah “Debbie” Lynne Highsmith, age 51, of Chesterton passed away in her
home Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was 51.
She was born March 9, 1959 in El Paso, Texas to Earl and Wilda (Craft)
Hughes. She was the Dietary Department Manager for Valparaiso Care and
Rehabilitation Center. Debbie was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of
American Legion Post #451, and the Amarillo Star Dance Club.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, “Jerry” Highsmith of Chesterton;
children Daniel Highsmith of Valparaiso and daughter Amanda Force (husband
Brad) of South Bend; mother Wilda Hughes of Valparaiso; grandchildren Daniel
Robert Earl Highsmith and Nevaeh Highsmith; brothers Mike Hughes of Portage
and Matthew Hughes of Valparaiso; sister Diana Hayes (Bruce) of Canada; and
her beloved and faithful companion dog, Tasha.
She was preceded in death by her father Earl Hughes, Sr.; a brother Earl
Hughes, Jr.; and a sister Carole Hughes.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at Edmonds &
Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Burial will follow in
Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the
funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
