William C. Dummel, age 89, of Portage, passed away Thursday, September 10,
2009 in Plainfield, Ind.
He was born in Eureka, Pa. and has been a resident in Plainfield for four
years.
William is survived by his children Dennis (Paula) Dummel of Plainfield,
Diane (John) Martel of Noblesville, , and David (Fernetta) Dummel of
Rochester, Minn. formerly of Chesterton; brother, Walter (Irmgard); sister,
Helen (Sam) Smith; grandchildren, Daena (Kevin) Holding, Devin (Leah
Donahue) Dummel, Dustin (Felisha) Dummel, Robert (Barb) Zajdel, Michael
(Kristen) Zajdel, Samantha and Danielle Dummel, Angela Keefe, Nichole (Tim)
Jackson, and Jennifer (Lance) Demeritt; great grandchildren, Blake, Blair
and Bree Holding, Tyler Zajdel, Emily and Valerie Keefe, Abigail and Elijah
Jackson, and Keilee Jo Demeritt.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ann.
William was a resident of Portage for 29 years and member of Nativity of Our
Savior Catholic Church in Portage. William was a veteran of World War II
serving in the US Navy, retired from LTV Steel in 1985 and served for many
years as Chaplain for the local American Legion Post #289.
A visitation for William Dummel will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13 at
Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with an
American Legion Service Post 289 in the evening.
A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Sept.14, directly at
Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage with
the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 a.m. with Father Andrew J.
Corona officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
