Life-long Porter resident Virginia “Gin” Grace Green, 87, died Friday, April
3, 2009, at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.
She was born June 30, 1921, in Porter, to Victor and Anna (Lindblade)
Hokanson, who preceded her in death.
On Nov. 12, 1950, at Porter Church, she married Jacob Wendell Green, who
preceded her in death on March 12, 1994.
She is survived by four children: Vicki (John) Hexamer of North August,
S.C., James (Linda) Green of Porter, Carol (Matt) Foldenauer of Pine
Township, and John (Calla) Green of Niskayuna, N.Y.; a son-in-law, Mike
Stryker of Valparaiso; two step-daughters, Janice (Dick) Snamiske of
Wisconsin and Pat (Larry) LaCroix of Illinois; a sister, Ruth Gawley of
Florida; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Strycker in 2001; and by
siblings Al, Edith, Art, Maynard, Gu, and Virgil.
Virginia was a long-time active member of the Porter United Methodist
Church, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women and the choir and
where she served formerly as church treasurer. She also belonged to various
clubs and circles within the church.
She was retired from the First State Bank of Porter, where she worked as a
teller.
Funeral services, Pastor G. Thomas Jones officiating, are scheduled for 11
a.m. Tuesday, April 7, at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in
Chesterton, with burial at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at White-Love.
