Service set for Robert M. Taylor

Chesterton resident Robert M. Taylor Sr., died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009 at 12:03 a.m. at Porter Hospital in Valparaiso. He was 78.

Born March 10, 1931 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of Russell H. and Helen I. (Piper) Taylor, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 28, 1958 in North Canton, Ohio, he married Shirley A. Shelby, who survives.

Also surviving is daughter Susan Dusz (husband Samuel) of Chesterton; sons Robert M. Taylor Jr. (wife Laurie) of LaPorte and Michael E. Taylor (Elizabeth) of Michigan City; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Ethel Bickel and brother Eugene McCallaster.

Robert was a retired plasterer who also worked for Nickels Bakery in Navare, Ohio. He was a member of Moose Lodge in Portage and Cleveland Bakers & Teamsters Union Local #567.

A time of remembrance will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home, 312 East Seventh Street, Michigan City. Burial will take place at a later date in Rosehill Memorial Park in Massillon, Ohio.
