Porter resident Edward Michael Upton passed away on Sunday, September 27,
2009 in Michigan City. He was 60.
Born on May 7, 1949 in Gadsden, Alabama, he was the son of Louis and Billie
(Butler) Upton, who survive in Gadsden. On Nov. 7, 1992 in Chicago, he
married Joan Roach, who survives in Porter.
He is also survived by son Glen Wells of Portage; daughter Wendy Wells of
Portage; and grandchildren Christian, Justin, and Nicholas Wells, all of
Portage.
Ed was an area resident for 14 years, coming from Chicago. He was a member
of Real Life Community Church and retired from Illinois Bell in the
Information Technology Department. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he
was a member of the Supporters of Military and the American Legion Post 170.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at 7 p.m. at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, with Pastor Duane
Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until
the time of service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at
Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden. Memorials may be made to the Porter County
Animal Shelter, 2056 Heavilin Road, Valparaiso, IN 46385.
