Russell W. Butler dies at 85

Russell W. Butler, 85, of LaPorte and Porter, passed away at 6:04 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009, at LaPorte Hospital.

He was born April 7, 1924, in Mount Sterling, Ill., the son of John and Lila (Icenogle) Butler.

On September 9, 1955, in Chicago, he married Violet P. Mionske, who preceded him in death in 2006.

He is survived by one son, John (Lorie) Butler of Chesterton; and one daughter, Brenda (Robert) Schmidkunz of LaPorte; two grandchildren, Anthony Butler, Damon Bougher; and two great grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; and four brothers.

Russell was a truck driver for Roger’s Cartage, retiring in 1988 after 30 years of service. Russell honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1946 and was a past member of the VFW, Porter, Ind. He enjoyed reading and visiting the local truck stops in Porter, where he knew he could enjoy his meals in the company of friends. Russell was a loving father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

There will be no services. Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., LaPorte is caring for the arrangements.
