Former Chesterton resident Morgan Russell Tweddell, 84, of Michigan City passed away Dec. 20, 2009 at 2:40 a.m. in St. Anthony Memorial with his children and grandchildren at his side. He was 84.

Born May 10, 1925 in Hartford, Kent., he was the son of the late P. D. and Martha (Rogers) Tweddell, Sr. On January 28, 1955 in Chesterton, he married Shirley Hellman, who preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2004.

He is survived by sons Timothy Tweddell and Stephen Tweddell, both of Michigan City; daughters Jill Ballou (husband Donnie) of Lansing, Mich., and Jennifer Lint (Bill) of St. Paul, Minn.; sisters Renny Miller of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Lou Fulkerson of Louisville, Kent.; grandchildren Alice Ballou, Rachel Ballou (Joe Arford, Sr.), and Anthony Ballou, all of Lansing, Mich.; a great-grandson, Joe Arford, Jr. of Lansing, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and his cat Peanut.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Shreder, and brothers Morris Tweddell, Roger Tweddell, Musker Tweddell, James Tweddell, and P.D. Tweddell, Jr.

Morgan worked for 33 years at Inland Steel as a pipefitter 2nd class. He also worked as a receiving clerk for the A&P grocery store and as a security officer for Cardinal Sercurity and Michiana Security in his later years. Morgan attended First Baptist Church of Michigan City and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

Morgan was a very family-oriented man and cherished the time spent with them. He was very grateful to have had all his children and grandchildren home with him this past Thanksgiving. He was especially close to his sister Renny and enjoyed being a great-grandpa to Baby Joe. He will be remembered for his smile, sense of humor, and his kind-hearted nature.

At Morgan's request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation will take place and his remains will be interred alongside his wife in a private graveside service at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel handled arrangements. Contributions may be made to the family. To sign a guestbook and leave condolences online visit www.otthaverstock.com
