Melvin Edward Wiese, age 83, of Chesterton, passed away Friday March 6, 2009
at the Waters of Duneland in Chesterton.
Melvin was born on November 6, 1925 in Vergas, Minn. the son of Herman F.
and Ella (Lachowitzer) Wiese.
On January 31, 1949 in Sycamore, Ill. he married Donna Brotcke, who survives
in Chesterton.
He is also survived by sons; Mark E. (Terrie) Wiese of Terre Haute, and Joel
F. (Paula) Wiese of Chesterton; daughters; Rebeca (Randall) Potter of
Menomonee Falls, Wis. and Margaret Wang of Carlisle, Mass.; six
grandchildren, Mary (Jim) Post, Mark Jr. Wiese, Jennifer Potter, Andrew
Potter, Katherine (Rick) Hurckes and Andrea Wiese, one great-grandson,
Michael D. Morgan.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernon Wiese and sister
Eleanora Leff.
Directly after WWII, he was a telegraph operator for the EJ&E Railroad.
Melvin was the respected owner of Mel’s Floor Service in Hobart, he was a
member of St. Patrick Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Hobart V.F.W.,
he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, March 10, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road,
Chesterton.
Visitation will be held from 3 until 8 p.m., with wake service at 6:30 p.m.
