John O. Edmond, 85, of Michigan City, died Tuesday, January
27, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care, Michigan City.
He was born August 12, 1923 in Chesterton, the son of George
and Effie M. (Gartman) Edmond, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to the former Leola M. (Gropp) on
June 6, 1952 in Michigan City, where she still resides.
Also surviving are his children, a son, Donald J. (Elizabeth)
Edmond of LaPorte; a daughter, Cindy K. (Mark) Webber of Porter, and son
James A. (Elizabeth) Edmond of Michigan City; grandchildren, Drake Edmond,
Ashley Edmond, Kyle (Jocelyn) Webber, Nicole Webber, Taylor (Steven)
Burkholder, and Jordan Brenneman. His sisters, Olive Babcock of Cincinnati,
OH and Grace Soliday of Valparaiso, as well as several nieces and nephews
also survive.
Mr. Edmond was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother,
grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved serving in his church, supporting
his community and watching sports. He was especially proud of his
grandchildren. He had been employed with U.S. Steel, Gary Works for 41
years, retiring as an electrical foreman in 1983. He was also a veteran of
the US Army.
He was a member of the Michigan City Moose Family Center,
Michigan City BPO Elks 432, Acme Lodge No. 83 F & AM, Scottish Rite Orak
Temple, and the Michigan City Senior Center.
Funeral services, Dr. Lance Hilberg officiating, will be at
11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 101 St.
John Rd. Michigan City.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 4-7
p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at church. Interment
will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
