John George Tofte dies at 35

John George Tofte, 35, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, September 14, 2009.

He was born December 6, 1973 in Valparaiso the son of John A. and Linda J. (Shiyan) Tofte, both of whom survive in Valparaiso.

He is also survived by his sisters, Kelly (Dennis) Patrick, Kathy (Mark) Brown, Charleen (Angelo) Tourloukis, all of Valparaiso; nieces and nephew Amanda and Adam Patrick, Cherish and Emilee Brown, Jeni and Lilli Gianis and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, John and Ida (Veden) Tofte and George and Rose (Wasylewich) Shiyan and niece, Jessica Brown.

John was a member of the Westville United Methodist Church; Porter County 4-H and the Porter County Farm Bureau. He was a lifetime fourth generation farmer at Tofte Farms which he loved very much. John received a liver transplant when he was 16 years old and was a 20 year survivor from the successful surgery. He was a loving, good son and brother and loved by his whole family very much. They will miss him.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 18 at Newhard Funeral Home in Westville. Interment will follow at the Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at Newhard Funeral Home, 58 West Walnut St., Westville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Make A Wish Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis because they helped make John’s wish come true.
