Jerome Theodore Green dies at 84

Jerome Theodore Green, age 84, of Valparaiso, formerly of Chesterton, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Valparaiso.

He was born August 19, 1925 in Peshigo, Wis. the son of Frank and Eleanore Green, both of whom preceded him in death.

On September 17, 1960 in Rockford, Ill., he married Berneice Green, who survives in Valparaiso.

Jerome is also survived by his daughters, Diane Miller and Christinia Green; brother, Norbert Green of Roscoe, Ill.; and grandchildren, Victoria Miller and Andrew Green.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Neeson and brother, James Green.

Jerome was an area resident since 1967 and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Organic Garden Club. He enjoyed gardening and staying physically active and fit. He received his high school diploma in the US Military and was a veteran serving during World War II in the 87th Mountain Infantry.

He served in the European Theater of Operations for eight months and participated in the Northern Apennines and Po Valley Campaigns of Italy, receiving a Bronze Star Medal of Honor. After discharge, he graduated from Bakerís School, which he continued as a hobby. He worked as an Inspector for US Can Company until retiring in 1998.

A Mass of Christian Burial for the cremated remains of Jerome Green, Father James Meade officiating, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 17 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton. Interment of cremains will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Chesterton.

A memorial visitation will be from noon until time of service Thursday, September 17 at 1 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the VNA Horton Hospice Center of Porter County, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383. www.EE-FH.com
