James Ralph Kendall, age 74 of Valparaiso, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009 in Valparaiso.  

He was born on October 27, 1934 in Marion, Ill. the son of Royce Thomas and Mahala Josephine (McDowell) Kendall, who preceded him in death. 

 He was married on May 8, 1954 to Margaret Jean Holley, who survives of Valparaiso.  

James is also survived by his son, Robert Thomas (Amalia) Kendall of Chesterton; daughter, Mahala Jo (Michael) Barbauld of Grand Rapids, Mich.; brothers, Kenneth (Mildred) Kendall of Portage and Donald (Eileen) Kendall of Springfield, Mo.; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Nicholas and Kyle.  

James was a member of Portage Christian Center, retired from LTV where he worked as a High Voltage Electrician, and was a member of the LTV Retirees Breakfast Club. He enjoyed working on his home and loved to fish.  

A private memorial service will be held for the family. Cremation will take place at Heritage Crematory, Portage. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage.
