James Quasney dies at 69

James Quasney, 69, of Naples, Fla., the father and grandfather of Chesterton residents, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda; daughters Lisa (Joe) Sabol, Marci Webb, Jodi (John Groen), Amanda (Ryan) Wade, and Nikole (Amy Sandler); a son, Jeffrey (Susan) Quasney; grandchildren Jake, Kevin, and Trevor Webb, Hayley, Joey and Kylie Sabol, Eric and Ryan Quasney, and Johnny and Tyler Groen; and brothers Bill and George.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Quasney; a sister, Nancy; and brothers Andrew and John Quasney.

James, formerly a resident of East Chicago and Munster, was Professor Emeritus of the Computer Programming Department--formerly the Computer Technology Department--at Purdue University Calumet, where he joined the faculty in 1969 and taught for 25 years. He co-authored more than 50 textbooks and after retiring from Purdue worked as a series editor for the Shelly-Cashman textbook series.

Cremation was held privately. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church, 1511 LaPorte Ave. in Valparaiso, the Revs. Kevin McCarthy and Robert Gehring officiating.
