Felix Duron, 66, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, January
23, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 27, 1942 in Saltillo, Mexico, the son of
Feliciano and Leonor Duron. His mother survives in Portage. His father
preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Felix David (Rose) Duron, of
Portage, Jennifer Leonor Duron (Chris) Meyne and Joseph Jesse Duron, both of
Valparaiso; six grandchildren, Felix Richard Duron, Tony Duron, Sarah Duron,
Ethan Duron, Emily Duron and Nicholas Wayne Serrano; brothers and sisters,
Dolores (Salvador) Flores, of Mexico, John (Trina) Duron of Portage, Mary (Lino)
Vasques of Hobart, Elsa (Bill) Moore of Sellersville, Pa., Mike Duron of
Valparaiso, Jessie (Rhonda) Duron of Valparaiso, Robert (Pam) Duron of
Portage, Henry (Carol) Duron of Olathe, Kan., Jenny (Felix) Vasquez of
Portage, Irma (Carlos) Leon of Chesterton, David Duron of East Chicago, Pat
(Jim) Shoup of Cedar Lake and Alice (Rob) Donegan of Geneva, Ill.; special
friend Phyllis Ann Panozzo of Niles, Mich. and many nieces, nephews and
friends.
He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Mario and
Marianito and one sister, Maria Ester.
Felix worked as a construction worker/pipefitter for Local
Union 597 in Chicago. He was a Leader of Boy Scout Troop 50 of the Calumet
Council, a member of the Valparaiso Masonic Lodge 137, and founder and
member of Woodchuck’s Wood Workers Club. He was a veteran of the US Army,
serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and 12th Special Forces Unit during
the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post 501 in South Haven.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage with
a Boy Scout Broken Arrow Ceremony at 3 p.m. and an American Legion Memorial
Service at 3:30 p.m. given by American Legion Post 260.
