Elsie Marie Smith, 84, of Monticello, died at her residence.

She was born April 22, 1925 in Chesterton, the daughter of the late Ernest and Edna (Pratt) Olson.

In 1944 in Valparaiso, she married Walter L. Smith who preceded her in death May 31, 1980.

She is survived by a son, W. Tom (Carolyn) Smith of Otterbein; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Elsie was a graduate of Chesterton High School and was a homemaker. She was an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church. She was a member of the White County Council for the Aging. She volunteered with the White County Food Pantry, and was Past President of White County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed latch hook and cross word puzzles.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Monday, June 8, at New Hope Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Pastor Jim Ward officiating. Interment will be at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
