Elsie Anna Pallone, age 94, of Jackson Township, Ind., passed away Tuesday,
Dec. 1, 2009, at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.
She was born March 26, 1915, in Hammond, the daughter of Paul and Margaret
Bagnor Kish, both of whom preceded her in death.
Elsie attended elementary school at Warren G. Harding in Hammond, Aylesworth
school in Boone Grove from 1926 to 1929 where she and her family attended
Boone Grove Christian Church. Elsie graduated from Hammond Tech in 1933
where she played the French horn in the national championship band, once
under the direction of John Philip Souza.
On Nov. 9, 1935, in Hammond at All Saints Church, she married John Joseph
Pallone, who preceded her in death in March of 1993.
Elsie is survived by three daughters: Bonnie Pallone of Chicago and
Valparaiso, Kathie (late William) York of Jackson Township, and Maureen
(Jerry) Alexander of Avon, Ind.
Also surviving are grandchildren Steven and Timothy York of Chesterton, Sean
and Megan Alexander of Avon, Ind., Christopher York of Glasgow, Ky., and
great-grandchildren David and Lily York of Valparaiso.
Also surviving are sisters Margaret (late John) Rauer of Largo, Fla., Sylvia
(Larry) Tracy of Sun City West, Ariz.; brother Elmer (Adele) Kish of Sun
City West; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her
faithful companion “Foxy,” a little red Pomerarian.
Elsie was also preceded in death by siblings Paul, Joseph, Michael,
Elizabeth, and Theresa who died in early childhood.
Elsie, her husband, and children lived in Calumet Township (Ross) from
December 1937 until July 1957 and while there she was active in the PTA,
serving as president of Calumet High, and was a Girl Scout leader for five
years.
While living in Jackson Township, she belonged to the Toastmistress Club of
Valparaiso, the Jackson Hilltoppers, Home Ec Club, and “Jackson Lunch Bunch”
for over 20 years.
Elsie worked as a real estate agent and also taught piano.
She was an accomplished painter and metal sculptor. Elsie had a thirst for
knowledge and took many credit courses at Indiana University Northwest in
Gary over the years.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in Chesterton. Interment will
follow at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 6, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the
White-Love Funeral Home.
