Former Chesterton resident Delysia June (Rhoda) Freedain died Saturday, May
9, 2009 in Oceanside, California.
She was born June 7, 1923 in Chesterton, the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Lidke)
Rhoda, Jr., both of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Allen A. Freedain of Oceanside, Calif. whom
she married in 1981; two step-sons, Donald (Gabrielle) Freedain of Lompoc,
Calif. and John A. Freedain of Vista, Calif.; two brothers, Evan (Bobbi) J.
Rhoda of Willowbrook, Ill. and Bryan C. Rhoda of Hileah, Fla.; and was “Aunt
Del” to nieces Brenda, Tammy, Laurel and nephews Carl, Ben, Bryan, John and
Mark, and the children of each; and by Delysia Hurst and Carlee Thilman whom
she considered as if they were her daughters.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert E. Williams in 1979
and by their daughter, Diane Carol Williams, who died shortly after her
birth in July 22, 1944.
Delysia was graduated from Chesterton High School in 1941. She returned to
her home town for many high school reunions and kept in contact with high
school friends over the years while working with her husband in the dry
cleaning industry.
A memorial service for her was conducted May 22 at Eternal Hills Memorial
Chapel in Oceanside, Calif.
Funeral services with interment are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25
at Chesterton Cemetery. Officiating at the grave side memorial will be Rev.
Jessica Young Brust of St. John’s United Church. At her request she was
cremated so there is no visitation.
