Portage resident Becky Ellen Schiller died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 in her
home. She was 59.
Born Sept. 16, 1950 in Michigan City, she was the daughter of James E. and
Helen (Davison) Snyder.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Jim Schiller of Portage;
father James E. Snyder (wife Cenie) of Florida; four sons, Dennis Schiller
(Michele) of Broken Bow, Neb., Jack Schiller (Holleah) Steven Schiller (Rebekah),
and Benjamin Schiller all of Portage; five grandchildren, Josiah, Gabriel,
Lillian, Merek, and Mena; two brothers, Ralph Snyder (Mary) of Rensselaer
and Kevin Snyder of Portage; sister Ardena Peters (husband William) of
Chesterton; and several nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and
relatives.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Snyder.
A 1968 graduate of Chesterton High School, she was a registered nurse. She
began her nursing career as a candy striper at Memorial Hospital in Michigan
City and graduated from South Bend Memorial Hospital’s Nurses Training in
1971. She worked in Michigan City Memorial Hospital’s OB department from
1971 to 1996, the St. Anthony Memorial Hospital’s OB department from 1997 to
2000, and for W.I.C. from 2001 to 2005. She loved making jewelry, collecting
dolls, writing poetry, sewing, and traveling. She was a member of the
Chesterton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in 1978.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the
Chesterton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 930 N. State Road 149. The
