Barbara Jean Furtek, age 75, of Valparaiso, passed away on Tuesday May 5, 2009 in South Holland, Ill.

Barbara was born on June 1, 1933 in Harvey, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Maude (Stokes) Nargis, both of whom preceded her in death.

On September 1, 1956 in Harvey, Ill., she married Edward A. Furtek, who survives in Valparaiso.

She is survived also by a son, Michael (Debbie) Furtek, of South Holland, Ill.; daughter, Linda (George) Gonzales, of Chesterton; brother, Roger (Kathy) Nargis, of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Steven (Candy), Matthew (Cristina), Lisa (Michael), Michael, Gregory and Martin; one great grandchild, Joseph and sister-in-law, Anna Marie Nargis, of Thornton, IL.

She was also preceded in death by brothers Carl and George Nargis.

Barbara and Edward were married for 52 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Illinois Bell.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 9, from Noon until time of service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory, Portage.
