Rolland G. Boyer, of Chesterton, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at VNA
Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was 79.
He was born April 15, 1929 in Ontario, Canada the son of the late Andrew and
Alberta (Richey) Boyer.
In Ontario, Canada, he married Paulette Laviolette, who survives in
Chesterton.
He is also survived by five children, Lorraine (John) Von Tobel, of
Valparaiso, Johanne (Mickey) Stanley, of Houston, Texas, Marc (Sandy) Boyer,
of Bellville, Ill., Jerry (fiancee Mary) Boyer, of Chesterton, Roxanne (Bill)
Ortiz, of Valparaiso; grandchildren, Tony and Joshua Salyer, Kayla and Kara
VonTobel, Robert and Ashley Stanley, Justin and Brittany Boyer and Tiffany
Ortiz; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Maurice, Jean Paul and Larry
Boyer.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rollande Salyer in Nov. 1994;
brothers, Guy and Bernard Boyer and sister Jeanine Dore.
Rolland was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Canadian
Legion, past member of the Chesterton Moose Lodge. He was a member of St.
Patrick Catholic Church. He was a printer for the Vidette-Messenger from
19966-1976, and the Post-Tribune from 1976-1983. He was a steelworker at
Western Cold Drawn-Steel in Gary.
Rolland lived for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and
enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
Funeral services, Fr. Lawrence Heeg officiating, will be at 7 p.m. Friday,
July 18 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Cremation
will follow the service.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m.
Friday.
Memorials may be given to VNA Horton Hospice Center, 501 Marquette St.,
Valparaiso.
