Robert L. Carr, Sr. dies at 86

Robert L. Carr, Sr. 86, of Valparaiso, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 at his home.

He was born July 23, 1922 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Merle and Nellie (Green) Carr, both of whom preceded him in death.

On January 25, 1949 in Gary, he married Shirley Felker, who survives.

He is also survived by sons, William (Sara) Carr of Valparaiso, James Carr of Georgia, David Carr of Westville; daughters Lynn (Tom) Boo of Chesterton, Laurie (Joe) Mullet of Westville; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, brother, Gerald “Pete” Carr of Oregon and daughter-in-law Laura Carr of Pa.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Carr, Jr., and two brothers.

Bob worked his entire life in the trucking/warehouse industry. He owned several companies through the years including Carr’s Service Center and Carr Real Estate where he worked until his passing.

He was a member of the Westville United Methodist Church, Westville Lions Club where he was very involved with the Medical Loan Closet and was a member of the Glen Park Masonic Lodge #732 where he was Past Master and a 33rd Degree Mason. Other memberships include the Disabled Veterans and the American Legion. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family. His generosity with time and talent made him well liked by all of those who knew him.

Funeral services, Rev. Dr. Karen Altergott and Rev. William C. Babb III officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3 at Westville United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Newhard Funeral Home, Westville. The family has asked memorials be made to the Westville United Methodist Church or the Westville Lions Club. www.newhardfuneralhome.com
