Robert Hirsh Carpenter, formerly of Chesterton, passed away at Canterbury Place in Valparaiso on January 4, 2008 due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 76.

He was born July 7, 1931 in Gary.

Robert is survived by his wife, Joan, of Valparaiso; two daughters, Valerie Malone, of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Lee Ann Benton, of Valparaiso; a son, Chris Carpenter, of La Porte; a host of loving grandchildren; and brother, Charles Carpenter, of Highland.

Bob was a Jack of all trades, was a member of Pipe Fitter’s Local 597 and owned Dunes Heating & Air-conditioning in Miller. In July, 2007, Canterbury Place residents and staff celebrated Robert’s 55th wedding anniversary to his loving wife.

A private memorial took place on Sunday afternoon, January 6.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
