Michael Charles Benko, 30, of Naples, Florida, died December
6, 2008.
Michael is survived by his mother, Susan Benko of Naples; his
father and step-mother Scott and Robbin Benko of
Chesterton; his brother, Mark Benko of Pacifica, Calif; his step-brothers
Eric Trowbridge of Chesterton and Steven Trowbridge of Chesterton; his
maternal grandparents, Thomas and Catherine Bell of Naples; his paternal
grandmother, Patricia J. Benko of Massillon, Ohio; many aunts, uncles,
cousins and his close high school friends, Josh and Steve.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John
Benko and his step-brother, John Trowbridge.
Michael was born with the rare disease primary pulmonary
hypertension. For the past 11 years Michael valiantly struggled with the
effects. Michael lived in Chesterton with his father and step-mother prior
to moving to Naples three years ago. For the last three years of Michael’s
life, he was an active member of the pulmonary hypertension support group in
Naples. Michael was an avid student of U.S. history and science and was able
to enjoy visits to many historical sites while battling his disease. Michael
was also a fan of the Cleveland Indians baseball team which reigns from his
home state of Ohio.
The family will have a celebration of his life on Saturday in
Naples, Fla.
