Geraldyne Sovich dies at 94

Geraldyne Sovich, nee Samuelson, of Las Vegas, Nev. formerly of Chesterton, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008. She was 94.

She was born July 30, 1913 in Baillytown, the daughter of John Victor and Hilda J. (Charlson) Samuelson, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Sept. 26, 1937 at Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church in Porter she married Mike Sovich, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Wayne (Carolyn) Sovich of Valparaiso; daughters, Monica (Richard) Brown of Las Vegas, Nev. and Sandra (Donald) Olson of Chesterton; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Mae Samuelson of Porter, and Carolyn Sovich of Gary and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brothers, Carl “Les”, Clarence and Willard Samuelson; and sisters, Lillian, Alfreida, Edith, Florence and Nettie.

Geraldyne was a loving mother and grandmother to all. Geraldyne was a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Michigan City, and belonged to several committees through Augsburg Lutheran Evangelical Church. She started working in the kitchen at Hageman School and through the years became Supervisor of Duneland School Corp. Cafeteria, retiring in 1978.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Augsburg Lutheran Church Cemetery

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday, in the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
