Emma Jo Slater, 77, of Westville, passed away Sunday,
December 7, 2008 in LaPorte.
She was born January 30,
1931 in Diaz, Ark. the daughter of Junius and Hazel (Thompson) West, both of
whom preceded her in death.
On December 29, 1951 in
Westville, she married Robert E. Slater who passed away January 3, 1999.
She is survived by a
daughter Rebecca (Arthur) Carter of Indianapolis; a grandson, Brett Carter;
a sister, Cora Lee Kirche of Chesterton; two nieces, Suzanne Kirche, Linda
Peterson; a great-nephew, Jack Nagy and great-niece, Ann Peterson.
She was also preceded in
death by a sister, Jo Ann West.
Emma Jo was the office
manager for many years at Slater Publishing in Westville which she and her
husband, Bob, owned. She enjoyed her family and had a passion for playing
golf.
Services, Rev. Dr. Karen
Altergott officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at Westville
United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Patton Cemetery in LaPorte.
The family has requested
memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer
Society, or charity of the donor’s choice.
The Newhard Funeral Home in
Westville is in charge of arrangements.
