Barbara May Stavropoulos dies at 79

Barbara May Stavropoulos, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008 at her home. She was 79.

She was born May 25, 1928 in Chicago, the daughter of Norval and Barbara (Travnicek) Barker.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Coslet and George (Darcy) Stavropoulos, Jr.; four daughters, Jo Ann (Philip) Carlson, Sandra Coslet, Carol (Mark) Becker and Barbara Holevoet; seven step-daughters, Meredith (Kent) Gulstrom, Judy (Gene) Miller, Denise (Bill) Barkow, Sue (John) Keiser, Janice (Todd) Rudnick, Coda Alfrey and Lisa (Bruce) Krause; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four brothers and one sister.

She was preceded in death by a step-son Gary.

Barbara was a member of the American Legion Post #170 Women’s Auxiliary, she attended the Banta Center and was a member of Sigma Phi Sorority.

After a long battle with cancer, Barbara passed away at home with her family beside her. She loved being involved at the Legion organizing the Annual Children’s Christmas Program, and her involvement in the weekly Bingo games. Her greatest pride was being a part of the Banta Center, crocheting baby blankets for the local hospital. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Funeral services, Pastor Ray Music officiating, will be at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at White-Love Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in Barbara’s name to the family.
