Robert Joseph Anderson dies at 86

Robert Joseph Anderson, of Chesterton passed away peacefully at his home, Nov. 24, 2007. He was 86.

He was born March 12, 1921 in Chesterton, the son of William and Elizabeth Anderson, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gisele Jeanette Anderson; a son, Jean-Pierre (Kelly) Anderson; a daughter, Michele (Tony) Pundrich, all of Chesterton; a twin brother, Richard Anderson of Chesterton; a brother, Howard Anderson of Fla.; and four grandchildren, Alex and Cortney Anderson and Max and Nick Pundrich.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Anderson and three sisters, Mary Heydorn, Florence Dillon and Elizabeth Martinal.

Robert was a longtime Chesterton resident and had retired from Bethlehem Steel. He went on to open up a Bob and Harry’s Barber Shop in Lake Station and ran the shop for many years until retiring in 2005. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and took part in the Normandy invasion and campaigns in western Europe until the end of the war. He was also a member of the Lake Station VFW Post 9323, Chesterton Moose #1846 and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

A memorial service, will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station.

Visitation will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. one hour prior to the service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
