Robert D. Shadwell, of Portage, passed away Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 at VNA
Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was 74.
He was born Jan. 18, 1933 in Effingham, Ill. the son of the late John and
Alpha (Poe) Shadwell.
On Feb. 10, 1997 in Ark. he married Loveda E. Fenton, who survives in
Portage.
He is also survived by four sons, Harold (Marsha) Kingery of Portage, Dennis
Shadwell of Gulfport, Mich., Tom (April) Kingery of Lake Station and Tim
Kingery of New Orleans, La.; Judy (William) Vaughn of Pinson, Ala., Karen
(Jim) Helmecy of Portage, Vicky (Bernard) Wright of Portage and Trudy
Cunningham of Portage; two brothers, Howard Shadwell of Paris, Texas and
John (Jean) Shadwell of Freedom, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Shadwell of
McClensboro, Ill.; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Robert was an area resident since 1995 coming from Effingham, Ill. and was a
graduate of Effingham High School. He was a member of the American Legion
Post 260 and the V.F.W. in Hobart. He worked as a carpenter for Pacesetter
Corp. and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Funeral services, Rev. Rick Henderson officiating, will be at 1 p.m.,
Saturday, Jan. 27 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941
Central Ave., Portage. Interment will be at Heritage Cemetery, Portage.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home
Portage Chapel, Portage. An American Legion service will be at 7 p.m. Friday
at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County.
