Robert Burton dies at 74

Robert Burton, of Porter, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. He was 74.

He was born January, 4, 1933 in Arkansas, the son of Jack and Myrtle (Rogers) Burton, both of whom preceded him in death.

On June 8, 1960 in Hobart, he married Joann Coslet, who survives in Porter.

He is also survived by a son, Scott DeWayne Holdren of Chesterton; five daughters, Cindy (Daniel) Smyth of LaPorte, Judith (Antonio) Reales of Chesterton, Shelley Jo (Keith Hale) of Porter, Susan Fern Burton (Troy Deso) of Valparaiso and Stacey Jill (Mark) Schultz of Valparaiso; a brother, Russell (Jeanette) Burton of Porter; a sister, Dorothy Kozrowski of Portage; sisters-in-law, Judith Rumbut of Hobart and Jerilyn Esslinger of Winamac; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jack Robert and Ricky Charles LaHayne; a brother, Ronald Burton; a brother-in-law, Lynn George Coslet; sisters, Doris Santiago and Mary Lou Watson and a granddaughter, Melissa Hill.

Robert loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by many. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Berlin, Germany. He worked at Bethlehem Steel retiring in 1995.

A funeral service, Rev. Leslie Britt officiating, will be at 7 p.m., Friday, May 11 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
