Rema I. Dalton passed away in Marin County, Calif., December 19, 2007 from
heart problems. She was 84.
Rema was born on June 3, 1923 in Sunbright, Tenn. Two years later, she was
adopted by Byrd and Artie Thompson.
They moved to Pulaski, Va. when she was a teenager. There she attended
school, met, and married John Dalton in 1941. They had a son, Starrett, in
1942. In 1955 they moved to Chesterton, where they remained until John’s
death on Sept. 7, 2001. John died about two weeks short of their 60th wedding
anniversary. In 2001 Rema moved to Tiburon, Calif. to live with her son,
Starrett and his wife Nancy. They had six wonderful years together.
She is survived by her son Starrett and his wife Nancy; brother-in-law
Houston Dalton; nieces, Linda Dalton, Lana Kurfman (Dalton), Cindy Wilson
(Ayers), and Susan Nadatowski (Ayers) and nephews, Clyde Dalton, and Mike
Ayers. She is also survived by a granddaughter Peggy Torres and two great
grandchildren, Maria and Marleigh Torres of New Albany, Ind.; a half sister
Agnes Murry of Memphis Tenn., and a nephew Jim Murry and niece Karen Holden
of the Memphis area.
She was predeceased by her mother and father; brothers-in-law Friel and Clyde
Dalton and Don Ayers and by sisters-in-law Irma Dalton, and Mildred Ayers.
Her ashes will be buried next to her husband John, in Chesterton.
