Paul A. Peterson dies at 83

Chesterton resident Paul A. Peterson died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007. He was 83.

He was born June 3, 1924 the son of Frank E. Peterson and Amanda (Pillman) in a part of unincorpated Porter County which is now in Porter.

On June 6, 1953 he married Mildred Fieffer in the Augsburg Lutheran Church of Porter.

His wife of 54 years, Mildred, survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by daughters Paula Graff (Dale) and Barbara Hines (Robert) all of Raleigh, N.C.; sons, John (Georgia) of Franklin, Kenneth (Natalie) of Rensselaer; grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Shawn, Samuel, Vanessa, Jeremy, and Jessie; sister Frances Morrison of Valparaiso; sisters Marie Kluth and Grace Dolk and brother Roy (Corrine) all of Chesterton; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by sisters Clara and Helen and by brother Robert.

Paul graduated from Chesterton High School in 1943. He proudly served in the Marine Corps on Green Island in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII as a member of the VMB-423 Seahorse Marines.

Paul was employed for 31 years with Northern Indiana Public Service Company. He attended Indiana University, and was promoted to Power Plant Supervisor for NIPSCO. He retired in 1983, and devoted his remaining years to those things he loved most: projects around the house, visiting his children and grandchildren, woodworking, rose gardening, golf, baking coffeecakes, marine reunions, meeting friends for breakfast at McDonald’s and walking.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at Edmonds and Evans, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Minister Britt Leslie of The United Methodist Church of Porter will officiate.

Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
