Lois Elezebeth Polito, of Porter, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007 at
Fountainview Nursing Home, Portage. She was 83.
She was born Oct. 12, 1923 in Eaton Rapids, Mich., the son of Earl and
Blanche (Mellon) Gilmore, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was the widow of first husband, Donald J. McNeil and of second husband,
Joseph Polito.
She is survived by two sons, Tom (Lynda) McNeil and Joseph F. (Diana) Polito
Jr.; two daughters, Shirley (John) Powell and JoAnne Polito; two
sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Barbara Gilmore and grandchildren, Tom Woods,
Krystal and Jennifer York, Trina Blank, Tabatha (Jake), Tiffiney (Keith),
Kenny Blake (Holly Overman), Mark (Carolyn), John (Amy).
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Don, Clayton, Richard and
Bernard Gilmore; a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Smaluk and life-long friend,
Ted Ribar.
Lois was a retired telephone operator for National Steel in Battle Creek,
Mich. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading,
tennis and was a golf fan.
Funeral services, Fr. Lawrence Heeg officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday,
June 9, 2007 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice Center or to the family.
