Lester Brown dies at 74

Lester Brown, of Gary (Miller), passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 at St. Margaret Hospital, Ham-mond. He was 74.

He was born Jan. 9, 1933 in Gary, the son of Roy and Mildred (Pearson) Brown, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by a nephew, Robert “Rob” Kennedy, of Calif.; a niece, Laura (Dino) Spezza of Calif.; cousins, Roland Pearson of Chesterton, Anita Kemper of Hobart, Don (Barbara) Hall of Calif., Phyllis (Art) DeHaesleer of Calif. and Sandra (Vic) Olah of Ill.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Kennedy.

Lester was employed as a laborer (Outside Contractor). Lester’s first job was for his uncle Algot Pearson, contractor in Chesterton, builder of bowstring trusses and glued beams. He was a former member of Labor Union 81 and a graduate of Emerson High School in Gary. He also was a former Boy Scout.

A graveside service, Rev. Terry Rhine officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 26, at Chesterton Cemetery. Interment of ashes will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Edmonds and Evans are in charge of arrangements.
