L. Jean McCaleb, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at
Whispering Pines Health Care Center. She was 94.
She was born Aug. 8, 1913 in Oconee, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Pearl
(Fribley) Diefenthaler, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by three children, Debby Johnson of Champaign, Ill., Phillip
(Wendy) McCaleb, of Valparaiso and Amy (Dick) Cook of Jackson, Mo.; nine
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was a member of 1st United Methodist Church, of Valparaiso and the United
Methodist Women of the Church. She was a member of P.E.O. and a graduate of
Illinois State Teacher’s College. She was an Elementary School Teacher. She
was an avid bridge player, and was a volunteer at Christ Hospital in Oak
Lawn, Ill. for 15 years.
Funeral services, Pastor Rhonda Kruse officiating, will be at 5 p.m. Sunday,
Aug. 12 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment
will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Oconee Mound Cemetery, Oconee, Ill.
The family will receive friends Sunday at 2 p.m. until time of service at 5
p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to VNA Hospice.
