Kathleen L. Westafer, of Chesterton, formerly of North Manchester, passed
away March 2, 2007 at her daughter’s residence in Chesterton. She was 91.
She was born March 14, 1915 in Wabash County, the daughter of John and Cora
(Unger) Miller, both of whom preceded her in death.
On Dec. 29, 1935, she married Lawrence L. “Westy” Westafer, who preceded her
in death July 19, 1988.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Mort of Chesterton; a grandson, Greg
(Sandy) Mort of Raleigh, N.C.; two granddaughters, Kathy (John) Flory,
Rochester, Ind. and Penny (Mitch) Schutz, North Manchester;
great-granddaughter, Brogan Schutz of North Manchester. She also is survived
by several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Kathleen was Co-owner of 114 Club, North Manchester and Manchester Lanes,
North Manchester and was a home maker. She worked at Manchester Greenhouse
delivering flowers for 12 years. She loved knitting and reading. She liked
living on the farm and raising sheep. She would bottle-feed orphaned lambs
and get them adjusted back into the herd. She enjoyed her family.
Funeral services, Pastor Karen Eberly officiating, were Sunday, March 4 at
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester. Interment was at Pleasant Hill
Cemetery, North Manchester.
