James (Sam) Burney, of Porter, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 at St.
Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City. He was 85.
He was born Sept. 24, 1921 in Springfield, Tenn. the son of Wiley and Meuerva
(Hallingsworth) Burney, both of whom preceded him in death.
On Aug. 3, 1940 in Russellville, Tenn. he married Opal L. Barrow, who
preceded him in death on April 17, 2007.
He is survived by sons, Robert J. (Gina) Burney of St. John, and Greg Alan
Burney of Hammond; a daughter, Martha J. Schuler of Cincinnati, Ohio; a
sister, Frances King; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Wayne Burney.
He was employed as a truck driver for Wilson Oil Co.
Funeral services, Pastor Barrow officiating, were at 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Interment was at
Chesterton Cemetery.
