Harold Ward Conru dies at 69

Harold Ward Conru, of Essex Junctin, Vt. died Monday, April 30, 2007 at Brigham Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. He was 69.

He died from mesathelioma, an asbestos related cancer.

He was born Nov. 10, 1937 in Chesterton, the son of Harold G. and Alma Michael Conru, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Aug. 1, 1964 in New York, he married Marlene Kipp who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Paula (Kip) Knudson and one granddaughter, McKinley in Anchorage, Alaska; a brother Worth (Reva) Conru of Michigan City and three sisters, Carmen Gondek of Michigan City; Constance Ruhe, of Newport Beach, Calif. and Donna Penfold of Chesterton.

He graduated from Chesterton High School in 1955 and was a graduate of Purdue University, West Lafayette. He was a metallurgical engineer with IBM in Burlington, Vermont until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and racquetball player. He enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and in Europe.

Cremation will take place and a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
