Elsie O. Samanas dies at 94

Elsie O. Samanas, of Portage, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2006 at Fountainview Place Nursing Home, Portage. She was 94.

She was born Oct. 3, 1912 in Chicago, Ill. the daughter of Joseph and Augusta (Sprainis) Abramite, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was the widow of Martin Samanas, who preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1960.

She is survived by a son, Don (Joan) Samanas of Madison, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Lenore Samanas of Valparaiso; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Jill, Chrissy, Blake and Evan.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Bob Samanas, three sisters, Martha Hall, Mary Stremming and Annie Warnimont and two brothers, Eddie and Jack Abramite.

Elsie had been a secretary for the Chicago YMCA. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Funeral services, Rev. Erich Fickel officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 E. CR 1100N, Chesterton. Interment will be in Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
