Elaine Grace Johnson, of Chesterton, passed away Friday evening, December 21,
2007 in Whispering Pines Health Care Center, Valparaiso. She was 89.
She was born Dec. 27, 1917 in Chesterton, the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Kortowski)
Schutt, both of whom preceded her in death.
On Aug. 31, 1940 in Chicago, she married Irving Paul Johnson, who preceded
her in death in 1987.
She is survived by a daughter, Darlene (Richard) Burton, of Porter; a
grandson, Richard L. Burton; granddaughter, Patricia (Wayne) Sullivan;
great-granddaughter, Ashley Erin Vogedes; step-great-granddaughter, Shelbie
Sullivan, all of Chesterton.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence Bishop, William
Bishop and Richard Schutt and two sisters, Marjorie Frappart, and Dorothy
Taylor.
Elaine was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton and a member
of St. Pat’s Senior Club. She was a member of the Machinist Union since 1950
and helped organize the union at Price Brothers Factory where she worked for
10 years. She also worked at Arcaida Microfilming for 20 years.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. at White-Love Funeral
Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Fr. James Meade officiated. Interment was
in the Chesterton Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday, Dec. 23 at White-Love Funeral Home.
Rosary was recited Sunday afternoon at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be
given to the Porter County Visiting Nurse Association. For information, call
