Dorothy M. Swanson, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 at VNA
Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. She was 78.
She was born March 1, 1928 in Chesterton, the daughter of Martin and
Veronica (Tibaut) Wagner, both of whom preceded her in death.
In 1950 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton, she married Daniel
Swanson, who preceded her in death in 1959.
She is survived by a son Daniel (Jeanie) Swanson, Fairfax, Va.; daughters,
Veronica “Ronnie” (Bob) Knueven of Littleton, Colo., Patricia (David)
Grismer of Chesterton and Dorothy (Bruce) Sebert of LaPorte; sisters-in-law,
Helen Wagner and Dolores Wagner; brothers-in-law, William Peeler and Arthur
Swanson; grandchildren, Nikki and Katie Knueven, Jennifer and Michael
Grismer, Josh and Matt Sebert and Michael Swanson; great-granddaughter, Abby
Sebert; many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Sister Mary Veronica Wagner,
Elizabeth Wucsko and Mary Peeler and brothers, Carl Wagner, Stephen Wagner
and Joseph Wagner.
Dorothy was retired as Vice President of Chesterton State Bank, where she
worked for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
She was involved in the Chesterton Woman’s Club and Junior Woman’s Club,
Ladies League of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Federated Phillies, St.
Patrick Senior Club, Moose Lodge of Chesterton and the Altar Rosary Society
of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Funeral service, Rev. Father James Meade officiating, will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 23 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd.,
Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. with a Wake service at 6:30 p.m. at Edmonds
& Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
Memorials may be given to VNA Horton Hospice or the Building Fund at St.
Patrick Catholic Church.
