Clifford G. Sherrard, Sr. of Chesterton, passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2007 in
Valparaiso, after a short illness. He was 89.
He was born Nov. 28, 1917 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the son of Robert and
Bertha Sherrard, both of whom preceded him in death.
Clifford and his wife Helen celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on July
15, 2007. She survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by a son, Clifford (Kathy) Sherrard, Jr.; a daughter,
Carol (Steve) Bushore, all of Chesterton; a daughter-in-law, Mary Sherrard,
(widow of Ronald) of Arcadia, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 13
great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was also preceded in death a sister, Wanda Sherrard; a son, Ronald
Sherrard; a grandson, Clifford Sherrard, III and a granddaughter, Vicki
Trembecki.
Clifford was retired from U.S. Steel on Aug. 31, 1969 with 30 years of
service and also retired from Charlotte County, Florida Schools after 10
years of service. He was a member of the ROTC in high school and a Cub Scout
leader in Hobart. He was a member of Delta Sigma Fraternity in Hobart. He
received his private pilot’s license at the age of 76 in Fla. and was a
member of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) in Fla. He was also a
certified Florida Hunter and Firearms Safety Training Instructor.
Cliff will be remembered by friends and family at a “Celebration of Life”
gathering to be held later this month.
