Barbara Jean Bowman, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007 at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Hobart. She was 76.

She was born May 1, 1931 in Ilion, N.Y., the daughter of Lawerence A. and Jessie Edgett Bushie.

In 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio, she married John R. Bowman, who survives.

She is survived by two sons, David M. Bowman (Jacki Roth) of Miami, Fla. and Paul A. Bowman of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Nina K. Bowman (Raymond Zuran) of Porter; four grandchildren, granddaughters, Hilary (Kyle Ledbetter) Wiesemann of Porter and Brittany (AJ Stueber) Wieseman of Valparaiso; expecting one great-grandchild; two sisters, Nina (Garland) Sponburgh and Donna (Donald) Poore, both of N.Y.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawerence Bushie.

Bowman was a medical surgery tech. She enjoyed reading, sewing, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, Chesterton. She was valedictorian in 1972 at Ivy Tech.

Funeral services, Fr. Robert Mayer officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18 at St. Francis Church.

The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the White-Love Funeral Home
